About Us

“In 2011, five Senior Engineers got together to form this company, including Prof. Priyan Mendis, a world-renowned figure, a researcher and a friend. Our main idea was to form an international level company because we saw there were no international level practices in structural engineering in Sri Lanka. There were very small practices by a few senior Structural Engineers with a small group of Engineers. Since during that time there was a huge opportunity for structural engineers with these new projects.

Our first goal was to secure mega projects. Luckily, we were able to engage in the lotus tower project and then Cecil Balmond invited us to assist him to monitor and supervise the John Keells Mega Project, Waterfront Residencies. Those two projects gave us a big boost to build up our team. So today, we have more than two hundred engineers and our specialization has gone beyond our dreams at the inception. The group has more than eight companies as of 2018. Earlier we were focusing only on structural designs, now we have education, a Structural Design Institute. Then the Lotus Construction Management is focused on Construction Management. We also saw a big void in Building Services Engineering, so we have the Building Services Engineering Group called BSEC.

Currently we are doing the tallest building in the country, the One Towers, which is taller than the Lotus Tower. Our Building Services Group is the designer for that project. We are also considering to form a Building Facility Management Unit. Most building facilities are managed by individuals or a very small group of people. However with the upcoming complicated and technologically advanced highrise buildings, we require professionals to manage it.

We also have a research arm, called the Colombo Building Research Organization (CBRO); where it focuses on research. Especially in building health monitoring, temperature monitoring and axial shortening. Currently we are supporting the National Building Research Organization to develop these systems in the country. Our main focus is to develop the total engineering fraternity of this country, not restricted to our company, but we also try to train other Engineers who are in other countries and other companies. Not only Sri Lankans, but also Maldivian and Burmese Engineers. We are also trying to expand ourselves beyond our boundaries like we have operations in Maldives and Myanmar. And also, I have an idea to go for other countries like Oman, Ethiopia and Uganda, where huge developments are happening. These opportunities we need to grab, and we need to show the world that Sri Lankans are good at Civil and Structural Engineering, as our forefathers did, 2500 years ago.”
